State University System Priority Admissions Information

Remember, you should have all of your requirements for admission (test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, essays, etc.) sent at least two weeks before the admission deadline.

Ask for recommendations well in advance of your deadline (at least a month).  Make sure to provide a profile of information about you, your goals, interests and accomplishments for the recommendation writer.  Think about who you will ask to write the recommendation – preferably someone who knows you very well and likes you.  These should be sent to the University at least two weeks before the admission deadline.

To request official transcripts:  click on the link to the right under 'important information', download and fill out the necessary information.  Be sure to research each college to determine if they want transcripts sent electronically or by mail.  The official transcripts must remain in the sealed envelope otherwise they are no longer official.  These should be requested at least two weeks before the admission deadline.

You will need the following information in front of you while applying for colleges:  most recent academic history (counselors or graduation coach can print this out for you), SAT & ACT scores (these also need to be sent to schools electronically), your social security number, your resume of extra-curricular activities, honors/awards, and community service projects, and your current schedule.

Click on this link www.flvc.org to determine bright futures availability.  The site can also show you what your current re-calculated GPA is, what test scores and how many community service hours are on file.

Message to Seniors from a University Admissions Officer

Pay attention to all college application requirements.  Make sure letters of recommendation, essays, ACT/SAT scores and transcripts are sent in at least two weeks before the admission deadline.

ALL senior year courses count (Universities can rescind admission if even one D or F shows up on academic history during senior year).

GPA should stay the same or go up senior year (Universities can rescind admission if GPA goes down).

Seniors should not drop rigorous coursework senior year (Universities can rescind admission if you were admitted based on rigorous coursework then dropped those courses).

Senior year courses are HIGHLY important and looked at thoroughly at Universities.  Low rigor courses can hurt a student’s chance of admission to a University.

The transition to college is easier for students if rigorous courses are taken their senior year.

Benefits of applying early to college – priority scholarships, financial aid and housing.
