FSCJ Scholarships - Due May 25th

If you are planning on attending FSCJ this fall and have not applied for scholarships, hurry!  The priority scholarship deadline is May 25^th. 

There are pages of scholarships out there for FSCJ, don’t miss an opportunity for FREE money for college!

Directions for the general scholarship application is below. 

1. Log into their FSCJ Connections Account (only applied students can apply for scholarships).
2. Set-up their FSCJ Email (if they have not done so). The email set-up cannot be done at school because of the fire wall. On the home page for Connections, there is a big button on the left that says email. Once they click it and put in their FSCJ user name and password and select their time zone, they should go right to their email. 
3. Next go back to the Connections home page. Click on “scholarships” (three up from the bottom on the right side on the main Connections page).
4. Once on the page with the list of scholarships, click “Sign-up” (up in the top right corner).
5. On the next page they need to use their FSCJ email to sign-up. That email will be their FSCJ student user id and @students.fscj.edu.
6. An email will be sent their FSCJ email and they can link to the application.
• The essay is required.
• They need two letters of recommendations or the email addresses of two people willing to act as references.

Good afternoon seniors!  Below you will find 9 different scholarships that you can apply for.  Please take the time to READ them!

1.       Get Girls Golfing Scholarship- $1,500- 1 Award (Deadline: May 15, 2015)

To be eligible for the Get Girls Golfing Scholarship you must:

A)     Be a female student in her senior year of high school.

B)      Intend on playing golf as a freshman.

C)      Attend a 2 or 4 year college.

2.       MCO Scholarship- $500- Many Awards (Deadline: May 15, 2015)

To be eligible for the MCO scholarship you must:

A)     Be attending college or university no later than December of 2015.

B)      Be attending college or university on a full-time basis by December of 2015.

C)      Submit an answer to the essay question no later than 11:59 PM EST on May 15, 2015.

D)     Be currently in your last year of high school or a freshman, sophomore, or junior in college/university.

3.       Scholarship Points Award- $10,000- 12 Awards (Deadline: May 15, 2015)

To be eligible for the Scholarship Points Award a student must:

A)     Be at least 13 years old and enrolled or will enroll in a college or university in the US.

B)      Be a legal resident of the US or Puerto Rico.

4.       LM Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: May 31, 2015)

To be eligible for the LM Scholarship a student must:

A)     Be currently enrolled or expected to be enrolled in a degree program (2 years of length or greater) by September.

B)      Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and submit an answer to the essay question prior to the submission deadline.

C)      Be a US resident or a Canadian resident and must also attend a school in Canada or the US.

5.       Odenza Vacations Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 1, 2015)

To be eligible for the Odenza Vacations Scholarship a student must:

A)     Be between the ages of 17 and 24 on September 1^st, 2015

B)      Submit answer to the essay question, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 1^st deadline.

C)      Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

D)     Be a resident of the United States or Canada.

6.       Got a Spine Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 2, 2015)

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must:

A)     Be attending college or university no later than October of 2015.

C)      Have achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater during their last academic year.

D)     Be a US resident

E)      Be attending a school in the US by October of 2015.

7.       Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium Scholarship- $1,000- 5 Awards (Deadline: June 15, 2015)

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must:

A)     Be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years.

B)      Be enrolled in a college-level program, university or an accredited automotive technical program by September of the year you are applying.

C)      Priority will be given to those pursuing a career in the automotive aftermarket.

8.       BBG Communications Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 30, 2015)

C)      Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Scholarship Opportunity for Hispanic Students - Deadline May 4

The Achieving The Dream Scholarship is for Hispanic/Latino descent students who are pursuing their Associates of Bachelors Degree and meet the following criteria: 

o    U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident only

o    Pursuing bachelors degree

o    At least one parent or grandparent of Hispanic/Latino origin

o    Minimum GPA 3.0

o    Being a resident of one of the 5 counties (Duval, Baker, St. Johns, Clay, and Nassau)

Avrek Law Scholarship - $5,000 - Due June 1

The scholarship contest is hosted by Avrek Law, and is open to all undergraduate, and graduate students who are attending, or plan to attend a two or four year university. The deadline for entries is June 1, 2015. The prize amounts range from $1,250 - $5,000.

JAX CHAMBER WEST COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - Due May15

The West Council of the Jax Chamber is pleased to offer a $1,000 college scholarship to a deserving high school student for the 2015-16 school year! In order to qualify for the scholarship, there are only a few requirements:

·         You must have a connection to the Westside of Jacksonville: either you live on the Westside, you go to school on the Westside, or one of your parents works on the Westside.

·         You must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0.

·         You must be enrolled to attend an accredited two- or four-year college in the fall of 2015.

·         You must complete this application in full, including a one-page essay about why you should be awarded the scholarship. The application must be completed in this Word format (take as much room as you like to answer) and emailed to Ruth Ann Hepler at ruthannhepler@gmail.com by May 15, 2015.

·         If you are selected, you must provide your high school transcript (or other proof of your graduation/GPA), proof of your SAT/ACT score(s), and proof of your college acceptance. In addition, you must attend the West Council lunch at the Florida Yacht Club on Friday, July 19, 2013, to meet the members, introduce yourself, and tell us about your college plans.

The scholarship will be awarded in two parts: $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester. In order to receive the spring semester award, you will need to provide proof that you earned at least a 2.5 GPA for the fall semester and that you completed at least 12 semester hours. The money will be deposited into the student’s account at the college.

FAMU Scholarship - Due April 25

The J.R.E. Lee (Jacksonville) Chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Chapter will award up to seven (7) $1,000 scholarships to ​ Jacksonville Area high school students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Applicant must be accepted to attend Florida A & M University as a full time student for the Fall 2015 Semester

2. Applicant must be a high school senior attending school in Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau or St. Johns Counties

3. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above

Frank M. Eidson Scholarship - Due May 15

Frank M. Eidson, P.A. is proud to present the first essay scholarship contest. The first prize is $1,500, the second prize is $1,000, and third prize of $500.

The contest is open to Florida high school seniors who are on pace to receive their High school diploma/GED within 9 months, and have been accepted into a higher learning institution within Florida. The deadline for entries is May 15, 2015.

$500 Scholarships from Jacksonville Asian American Alliance (JAAA) - Due April 18

JAAA will be offering five(5) $500 Scholarships for graduating seniors in Duval, St. Johns, Baker and Nassau counties.

Dorthea B. Shaw Scholarship Information

We are pleased to announce the Dorthea B. Shaw Scholarship for students living in Duval county and attending College or University in the Northeastern United States. The scholarship is awarded annually to a high school graduate.

Northeastern states are identified as : CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, and VT.  The scholarship will be in the amount of $6,000 paid out over four years ($1500 per year).  All applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average (un-weighted) and plan to attend an accredited post secondary institution on a full time basis. Verification of enrollment from the institution must be received by The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida before funds will be released.

In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider the following: academic achievements, leadership experience, desire for personal growth and financial need.

Spring Into College! Parent Information Nights at REL

Spring is a great time of year for students and parents to jump into the next phase of their child's education. The school counselors at REL are excited to help parents understand how students can earn college credits while still in high school, how to manage college applications, and how to complete financial aid applications. Check out these events that will help your child Spring Into College:

March 31 - Senior Parent Night

Join us to get all of the details about the graduation ceremony, senior activities, college planning, FAFSA and scholarships.  This event is open to all REL Seniors and parents!

April 7 - Financial Aid Info Session 6:00-7:00
Parents and students who need assistance with financial aid forms can bring their questions to this event! Counselors will be on hand to help you with the FAFSA, Florida Financial Aid, and college aid applications. This event is open to all REL Seniors and parents! 

April 14 - How to Create a College Schedule!
Open to any parent who is interested in learning more about how to select classes for dual enrollment programs at FSCJ. This will be held in the REL Media Center from 6:00-7:30 p.m. 

April 21 at 6:00 p.m. - Moving up! Early College Freshmen Parent Night 
This event is open to all 9th grade Early College students and parents. Information will be provided regarding Early College Continuation Criteria, PERT Testing, and EOCs. This will be held in the REL Auditorium from 6:00-7:30 p.m. 

April 23 - Getting Ready for Senior Year! Junior parent night

Join us for information about graduation requirements, the college application process, financial aid, scholarships, and dual enrollment opportunities. This event is open to all REL Juniors and parents!

This event, open to our incoming class of students, will provide information for students and parents about REL programs, expectations, and benefits of dual enrollment offered at Lee High School. Applications for FSCJ Scholarships have opened.  You can view all of the scholarships at www.fscj.edu/scholarships

You are encouraged to apply early.  The online application process will allow you to apply for multiple scholarships at once.  Each applicate will be required to answer the following questions:

• Why is college education important?
• What are your career and educational goals?
• Is there anything impeding your goals?
• Why are you deserving of a scholarship and how would a scholarship assist you in attaining your goals?
